Over the weekend, the first US soldier was killed on President Donald Trump’s watch, and we got to see how our new Commander-in-Chief responded to losing one of our nation’s heroes. After the Navy SEAL was killed by Muslims, Trump did something that has come to be completely unexpected after the last 8 years under Barack Obama.
Demonstrating how deeply Trump respects the brave men and women of our country’s armed forces, he has already responded by offering his sincerest condolences in a way that has touched the hearts of Americans nationwide. If Obama was still in office, you can bet that he would have opted to hit the golf course instead of addressing the issue head-on.
Despite the death of one Navy SEAL and injury of three other American commandos, the Trump-authorized raid in Yemen this weekend was considered a great success. Fourteen members of Al-Qaeda were taken out, and information was captured which will likely provide insight into the planning of future terror plots. The military said that no civilians were killed as a result of the attack.
“In a successful raid against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) headquarters, brave U.S. forces were instrumental in killing an estimated 14 AQAP members and capturing important intelligence that will assist the U.S. in preventing terrorism against its citizens and people around the world,” Trump said, according to CNN.
“Americans are saddened this morning with news that a life of a heroic service member has been taken in our fight against the evil of radical Islamic terrorism,” he added. “The sacrifices made by the men and women of our armed forces, and the families they leave behind, are the backbone of the liberty we hold so dear as Americans, united in our pursuit of a safer nation and a freer world.”
He continued, “My deepest thoughts and humblest prayers are with the family of this fallen service member. I also pray for a quick and complete recovery for the brave service members who sustained injuries.”
Donald Trump’s statement flies in the face of an agenda which the Obama administration pushed for eight long years. The fact that he used the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism” was not inconsequential; Trump’s ability to call the enemy by name will be an important element in extinguishing their threat. Furthermore, the president noted that he was praying for the family of the fallen SEAL, something Obama would never have said.
The name of the fallen US serviceman has not been released as of yet, but we are forever grateful for the ultimate sacrifice he and his family have made for our great nation. It is because of brave men like him that the rest of us can maintain our freedoms and security while sleeping peacefully in our beds at night. His sacrifice will not be forgotten or ignored, and like our leader, we too pray for the family.
